WORKSHOP

My pieces reflect serenity, mediterranean light and the unique character left by the fire and smoke.

My work nowadays is based on the meticulous treatment of the clay . I pay special attention to the polish when I am doing a piece, and to the final finish which is done with Terras Sigillatas . I do this by decanting the clays to achieve very fine slips. Once they are applied they give the piece a bright and natural finish.

The origins of Terra Sigillatas go back to Greece at the end of the VI century B.C, but it was in Roman times when they were most common. Under the Roman Empire Terra Sigillatas could be found across almost the whole of Europe and the Mediterranean coast.

Sigiliums (potteries) are very well known in History. There were potteries in the places where good materials could be found.

Terras Sigillatas were replaced in many areas by glaze and other types of ceramics; however nowadays many contemporary potters use Terras Sigillatas for archeological reproductions and for their studio pottery.

I usually finish my pieces with a smoke firing . It could be Naked Raku, Carbonation , or simple firing techniques with paper, wood or other fuels.
